Student loans are meant to help making ends meet while passing thorough your education effort. They are not gifts or scholarship as exposed in a previous section of this site. As the name implies, a student loan is a loan and to that effect you will have to pay it all back and add the interests to it. In every case this sums up to a whole lot of money that will weight in you first 3 to 8 years of work.

Think about it realistically
If you are going to need a loan to go thorough then get a clear head about it. Cut and keep it to the minimum needed amount and spare anything along the way that you overestimated. Be very careful not to fall in the trap of excitement about that money which may seem a considerable sum as it appears in your bank account. In fact, it is not that much and surely it is less than you truly would need.

Whether you live in Ontario, in Quebec or in a territory, you will have to apply on different programs. In any case, consult the provincial government of your current place of residence. It does not matter where your will be going to school, you current province of residence is where you need to look.

Available for studying abroad
Even if you planed to study abroad, you ma be eligible to a full time student loan. Just make sure the school you are looking at is recognize by the government as “designated institution“. Again you need to consult with the provincial government of current province of residence.

Time limits and max amount
There is a lifetime maximum amount of loaned money you can get. This amount varies upon you financial situation. Also there is a time limit to the free interest period. Once this period is over, you will have to repay your loan capital of course but also the running interests and this will aply even if your still in school. Be sure to ask and know of all the details.

Choose the right bank
